A Study in Color: Working With White Walls

A Study in Color: Working With White Walls

Every morning you rise to face the world. You lift yourself out of your stark white bed and trudge through your stark white bedroom to your stark white bathroom. Nothing seems to catch your eye -- no color, no vibrance; the monotony is overwhelming. Another day, another morning. Off to work, and the lack of any real flare in your home has you in the familiar state of AM drag.

This may be a rather dismal image of the morning, but the fact of the matter is that many people simply don’t have the time or motivation to paint their homes. Often times renters are not allowed to paint their walls. Worry not. We have a few quick tips to help add custom touches to your bedroom or bathroom that will make your mornings brighter and your evenings more comforting without busting out the rollers and brushes.

No Paint Required

Put simply: painting your walls can be about as enjoyable as mowing your lawn with scissors. If you’re more the type that enjoys relaxing during your down time--rather than diving into a DIY project--a more ideal route to adding color to your home is to invest in colorful linens. Lucky for you, we just so happen to have an assortment of colorful options handy over at our online store.  Now that the shameless plug is out of the way, let’s get down to the brass tax.

Contrast

The Lux Decor comforter set offers great contrast.[/caption] So, your walls are white. You’re not alone. Maybe you like the clean appeal of white walls, and to each his (or her) own. However, a key concept to keep in mind when decorating a home is contrast. A quick Google search will tell us that contrast is defined as ”the state of being strikingly different from something else, typically something in juxtaposition or close association.” With that in mind, we find ourselves at a great starting point. What contrasts with white? Well, pretty much anything. A few stronger options to consider for adding pop to your white bedroom are reds, oranges, or yellows. Warm colors such as these tend to stand out best against white. A vibrant comforter will add a beautiful splash of color to your day.

Color Palettes

Let’s say you’d like to try a few colors rather than just one. We suggest experimenting with palettes of colors that work well together. A hot trend right now is a red, white, and blue color palette. While it may sound a little too “4th Of July”, it can be a strikingly simple and subtle choice to spice up your bed or bath. Another great example can be warm earth tones. Picture your bathroom with chocolate colored towels neatly folded on the counter, a creamy taupe bath mat keeping your feet warm, and an ultra soft burgundy bath robe to set it all off. You may not be able to (or just not want to) paint your walls, but don’t let that stop you from adding a little color to your life! We have everything you need to make where you live a little less stark and a little more you.
